The word Malaria is formed from the Italian word Mal meaning evil and aria meaning air. Malaria means polluted air or bad air. Scientist Torti was the first to use the term Malaria. Malaria was previously thought to be caused by consumption of polluted air. In the present world, about 500 million people are infected with malaria every year and more than 100,000 people die.
