In Vitro Fertilization-IVF

In vitro fertilization is composed of the Latin in vitro meaning inside the glass and fertilization meaning fertilization. It means fertilization inside the glass. Artificial insemination or IVF is the process in which sperm and egg unite in a glass container outside the body and the fertilized egg is implanted in the uterus. It is a test tube method or assisted reproductive technology (ART) and the child is called a test tube baby.
Patrice Steptoe and Robert G. Edwards developed this method in 1978. In 2010, the father of IVF technology Dr. Robert G. Edwards was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Louise Brown, the world’s first test tube baby. He was born on 25 July 1978 at 11.47 pm at Oldham and District Hospital in Manchester, England. His birth weight was 2.61 kg. His mother is Peter Brown and father is Lesley. Currently there are about 50 lakh test tube babies in the world.
