The process by which the animal body is divided into larger segments or tagmas is called regionalization or tagmatization. Each region is called a tagma. The evolutionary process by which regionalization is accomplished is called tagmosis. The bodies of animals of the class Insecta of the order Arthropoda are divided into three tagmas.
