Scientists Kurtis (1968), Stanier (1970) and Dadson (1971) proposed a third kingdom of the biosphere, Protista. Protista is named after the Greek word protistos meaning first. Bacteria, protista and sponges were included in the kingdom Protista. The proposed three kingdoms are Protista, Plantae and Animalia.
