- Leg and thigh muscles are stiff and swollen
- Heart and lung problems
- The spine is curved
- Bones are deformed
- Decreased sense of power
- The patient gradually becomes disabled
- The patient cannot stand or walk upright
- The patient is paralysed.
- Affected individuals lose normal mobility within 10 years and die within 20 years.
