It arises from the medulla oblongata and divides into four branches. It is mixed nerves.
(i) Laryngeal: It enters the larynx.
(ii) Cardiac: It extends to the heart.
(iii) Gastric : Carries nerves in the stomach.
(iv) Pulmonary: Extends to the lungs.
