Seed-definition and classification

The mature fertilized ovule is called a seed. It is covered by seed coat. Seeds germinate and produce new plants. Different types of seeds are-
1. Monocot Seed: A seed that has only one cotyledon is called monocot seed. For example – paddy, wheat, bhutra, coconut etc.
2. Dicotyledonous Seeds: The seeds which have two cotyledons are called dicotyledonous seeds. For example – gram, peas, pumpkin, mango etc.
3. Polycotyledonous Seed: A seed which has three or more cotyledons is called polycotyledonous seed. For example – pine, cycas etc.
4. Soyal seeds: The seeds in which the seeds are stored are called sosyal seeds. For example – Paddy, Wheat, Bhutra, Jute, Shaluk etc.
5. Irregular seeds: The seeds that do not store seeds are called Irregular seeds. For example – mango, chickpea, wool, peas etc.
